Bars will remain closed for now after a Volusia County, Florida circuit court judge denied a request to let bars operate while they fight the state’s order shutting them down three and a half weeks ago.
Attorney Jacob Weil, who filed a lawsuit on behalf of two local bar owners, asked for a temporary injunction during a virtual hearing Monday.
Weil argued closing bars for a second time due to coronavirus was, among other things, discriminatory, because restaurants with bars were not required to close.
“We are going to keep fighting to reopen Florida bars, and our firm is currently working with bar owners all over the state preparing to file additional suits to protect individuals’ rights,” Weil said.
Judge Leah Case denied the motion, in part writing that the owners failed to show irreparable damage.
